Privacy Policy


1. Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data.  Identification can be by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession. The processing of personal data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Who are we?

MET (Methodist Evangelicals Together) is the data controller (contact details below).  This means it decides how your personal data is processed and for what purposes.

3. What personal data do we hold?

  • We hold information provided to us by our members who pay their annual subscription.
  • We also hold data on Connexional Officers, Chairs of District and ministers whose details are in the Minutes of the Annual Conference and Directory of the Methodist Church.  This is the only data we hold without explicit permission and is used according to the policies of the Methodist Church which publishes this data annually. 

4. How do we process your personal data?

We comply with its obligations under GDPR by:

  • Keeping personal data up to date.
  • Storing and destroying it securely.
  • Protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure, and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data.

 We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To administer membership records.
  • To maintain our own accounts and records (including the processing of gift aid applications).
  • To circulate the magazine and to inform you of news, events and activities.

5. What is the legal basis for processing your personal data?

  • We process your data in order to fulfil our obligations to you as a member.
  • So that we can keep you informed about news, events, and activities.
  • Processing is necessary for carrying out legal obligations in relation to Gift Aid.

6. Sharing your personal data

  • Your personal data will be treated as strictly confidential.
  • We do not share the information with any third party.

7. How do we maintain your personal data?

  • We seek to maintain accurate records to ensure that your personal data is kept up to date.
  • We delete data securely when requested.
  • We have effective processes to identify and report any personal data breaches.

8. Accessing personal data 

  • If you wish to request a copy of the data which we hold on you, or request for it to be removed from the database, please contact our Administrator.

10. Updating our Privacy Policy

In order to comply with GDPR legislation our Privacy Policy is reviewed annually by the Trustees, updated where necessary and placed on our website.
